- How do I tell practice contractions from real labour?
- Practice (Braxton Hicks) contractions are irregular, don’t get closer together and ease when you rest or drink water. If they are regular, getting closer and stronger, and don’t stop with rest, treat them as real.
- What medicines might I get in hospital?
- Usually two kinds: medicine that calms the contractions, and injections that help the baby’s lungs mature in case the baby comes early. If a medicine gives you palpitations or a bad headache, call for advice.
- Can I keep working?
- Follow your doctor’s advice. Avoid jobs with long standing, heavy lifting or night shifts. You can ask for a medical certificate to take time off.
- What happens if my baby is born early?
- The earlier the birth, the higher the risk of breathing problems, getting cold, infections and jaundice. Every extra day in the womb matters.
- What should I bring to hospital?
